Eat Book turns restaurant videos into a personal map. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect little.

Who we are

Eat Book (“we”, “us”) is operated by Market Equities Limited, a company registered in Ireland at Courtyard, Manor House, 3 Church Rd, Malahide, Co. Dublin, K36 AK25, Ireland. We are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us any time at support (at) eatbook.food.

What we collect

• An account — when you first open the app we create an anonymous account for you automatically, so everything works without signing up. It has no email, name, or anything else that identifies you — just a random ID that keeps your saves together. If you later add your email (or use Google sign-in), that same account becomes yours and follows you to your other devices.
• Your email — only if you choose to sign in with it. Sign-in for users is passwordless (a link or a one-time code).
• What you save — the venues you add with your notes, “want to go” and favourite flags; your recipe book (including ratings and notes); your shopping list; and the link to the post each item came from.
• Your location — only when you tap “Near me”, and only to show restaurants around you. It’s read by your browser and used to look up nearby places; we don’t keep a history of where you’ve been.
• The posts you share in — when you send a TikTok, Instagram or web link (or its caption/thumbnail), we process it to work out the venue, cuisine or recipe. We keep a time-limited copy of what we read from the post so re-shares of the same post don’t need processing twice, and we keep a copy of the post’s preview image so your saved cards keep their picture.
• Basic technical data — standard server logs (such as request times and error information) needed to run and secure the service.

How your data is stored

Your saves live in our database — that’s what lets everything work instantly and, once you’ve added your email, sync across your devices. A copy is also kept on your device so the app opens fast. On an anonymous account, your saves are tied to the device you made them on; add your email to keep them if the device is lost.

Services we rely on

To provide Eat Book we share the minimum necessary with a few trusted providers:

• Supabase — hosts our database and handles passwordless sign-in.
• Google Maps Platform (Places) — looks up venue details (address, hours, rating, etc.) and powers location search.
• Anthropic — its AI reads a post’s caption or image to identify the venue, classify the cuisine, or extract a recipe. Anthropic doesn’t use this to train its AI.
• tikwm — a service we use to read public details of shared TikTok posts (their captions and comments), since TikTok doesn’t offer this directly.
• DuckDuckGo — when a post doesn’t name its venue or recipe, we search the web for it. The search sees words from the post, never anything about you.
• Google — if you choose “Continue with Google”, Google confirms your identity and shares your basic profile (your email address), which we use only to sign you in.
• Resend — sends your sign-in emails.
• Vercel — hosts the website, and OpenStreetMap / CARTO provide the map tiles.

The site’s fonts and code are served from our own hosting — no font or code CDN is contacted when a page loads.

We don’t sell your data and we don’t use it for advertising. We may use privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics to understand how Eat Book is used; we don’t use advertising trackers.

Some of these providers process data outside Ireland and the EEA — for example in Canada (where our database is hosted) and the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the providers’ safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.

Sharing spots, recipes and lists

When you create a share link, the items you chose are stored on our server and the link carries a short code that points to them, so whoever opens it can add them to their own Eat Book. Only what you selected is included, and anyone with the link can open it — so share it like you’d share the spots themselves.

Why we can use your data

We use your data to provide the service you asked for (your account and your map), to keep Eat Book running and secure, and — for location — only with your consent when you tap “Near me”.

Your rights

Because we’re an Irish company, your data is protected under the GDPR wherever you live. You can ask us to:

• see the personal data we hold about you, or get a copy of it;
• correct anything that’s wrong;
• delete your account and data;
• restrict or object to how we use it; and
• withdraw consent (for example, turn off location) at any time.

Keeping or deleting your data

We keep your account data for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account yourself, in the app: open the menu and choose “Delete account”. That permanently removes your account and everything in it — every spot, recipe, and your shopping list — on all your devices. You can also email support (at) eatbook.food from your account address and we’ll do it for you.

A few things live on their own clocks: our time-limited copy of what we read from a shared post expires by itself; share links you created keep working (delete-and-reshare if you want one gone — or email us); and the preview images saved with spots are kept per post, not per person, so a picture can remain if someone else saved the same post.

Children

Eat Book isn’t directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we update this policy, we’ll change the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
